I'd say, we can all say, we're busy people. So, how and when do you make use of the Holy Scriptures in your personal life? You might recall that Martin Luther was a very busy man. His books, letters, lectures, sermons, studies, tracts, and hymns testify it. His works fill many volumes and still he had a family, a home, and other timely responsibilities to attend. Yet, each day he made time to feed on the Word and pray.
So with all this in mind, I invite you to do 7 things that follow. If you do this with someone else, all the better!
How would you describe the difference between Bible reading and Bible study?
Make a list of the purposes and benefits of Bible reading and study.
Following are Bible references. Write a word or two to summarize what each says:
II Timothy 3:14-17 _________________________________________________
I Peter 3:15 ______________________________________________________
II Peter 3:18 ______________________________________________________
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 _______________________________________________
Acts 17:11 ________________________________________________________
Matthew 5:13-16 __________________________________________________
John 5:39 _______________________________________________________
Psalm 1 19:105 ____________________________________________________
Read Acts 17:10-11. The Berean Christians went to the _________________ where the Word was proclaimed and taught; they received the Word with _______________. They studied it ____________ to see if what Paul said ________________. How do these points apply to Your reading and studying of the Word?
After reading Colossians 3:16-17, give some examples of your potential use of the Scriptures.
Psalm 19:14 speaks of meditation. Look up the definition of "meditation." What do you see is the relationship between Bible reading and meditation?
Finally, read II Corinthians 5:17-21. On your own, take 10 minutes now to meditate upon the meaning of this passage for your person life.
